Plants can help our environmentnot only as an alternative to fossil fuels, but also as renewable materials. Plants are amazing, it is as simple as that!
Saturday the 18th of May 2013 PlantLink invites you to »Fascination of Plants Day« for the second year in a row. Our theme this year’s is »Green materials« and we will show you how plants can help us save the earth’s resources.
Visit our science tent in Lund University's Botanical Gardens between 10 am and 2 pm, where researchers from SLU Alnarp and Lund University will present the latest discoveries under the banner »The plant: a factory without pollution and noise«. Map for the botanical gardens. Entrance is free of charge.
Welcome!
Monday the 27th of May Dr Jerry Glover, Senior Research Advisor at the USAID Bureau for Food Security, will visit SLU Alnarp and give a lecture in the Crafoord Hall. Jerry Glover is one of the world’s leading advocates for increasing the use of perennial crops as a measure to avoid soil erosion, lessen the need of fertilizers and raise food production. For his achievements in agroecology, Jerry Glover has been identified as one of five crop researchers whose ideas could change the world by Nature Magazine.
After Dr Glover’s presentation Dr Mulatu Dida Geleta and Prof Lihua Zhu from the Department of Plant Breeding at SLU Alnarp will present their work on the potential oil crop Lepedium campestre which targets both domestication as well as perenniation.

This year's PlantLink 'seed money' call for plant researchers at Lund University and SLU Alnarp is open until Friday 14 June. We wish to support (i) new and innovative collaborative projects between researchers at Lund University and SLU Alnarp running over 1 year and (ii) the extension of PlantLink 'seed money' projects granted in 2011 or 2012. The projects should strengthen plant research in the Skåne region. Industrial partnerships are encouraged and will be evaluated favorably.

Meet our PlantLink bioinformatician, Estelle Wéra, Mondays in Lund
The PlantLink bioinformatician, Estelle Wéra, now divides her time between Alnarp and Lund. Since April she works from Lund every Monday. Estelle can be found in the Ecology Building, Sölvegatan 37, where she sits with the group of Microbial Ecology.
If you want to contact Estelle, please make an appointment ( Den här e-postadressen är skyddad från spamrobotar. Du måste tillåta Javascript för att visa e-postadressen ).
This is an initiative to better integrate the use of bioinformatics for plant science in the region and to strengthen the contacts between bioinformaticians at the two universities.
